At 91, Ann has a simple recipe for her ideal day. "The perfect day is when I wake up refreshed, get outside for some exercise and spend time with my husband."

Sounds like a lovely day.

Then she said, "A perfect day is when I learn something -- about me or the people around me -- without judgement."

In her book Aged Healthy, Wealthy and Wise, Coventry Edwards-Pitt writes, "As it turns out, people are far more likely to feel fulfilled, engaged, and purposeful in old age if they believe they are not yet finished growing and learning - and if they act on that belief by being open and adaptable."

Ann's on to something.

She admits that it's not easy for her to look at herself and others without a running commentary. Recognizing the judgmental thoughts and letting them go has become part of her purpose.

So while her energy to go and do has gone way down in the last couple of years, Ann says she's content with what she has. A lot of that can be chalked up to her growth mindset.

My clients are my elder wise people. I learn from them every day. I highly suggest you start talking to the elder wise people in your world.
